Spindles for Hot Rod Subframes
Pre modern day cars are known for having poor steering geometry from the factory. The older they get the worse things were. They rode relatively smooth in straight line situations, but high speed cornering was less of a consideration in their designs. With today's technology, correcting these issues with geometry enhanced tubular control arms helps but is only part of the equation. Speedtech and ATS have taken an entirely new approach to improving the less than optimal factory suspensions by scratch designing the focal point of the steering and suspension geometry, the front spindle.
Speedtech/ ATS Tall Spindles are power forged, then heat treated from ultra strong, lightweight 7075 T73 aircraft spec aluminum and then precision machined on a CNC 5 axis mill. The tall profile radically improves the vehicle's handling characteristics by transforming camber gain during suspension travel. Combined with increased camber and caster built into our control arms the end result is a car that keeps the tires planted while navigating the curves.
ATS Tall spindles drop ride height 1" for a more aggressive stance and use highly modernized ZR1 Corvette sealed heavy duty hub assemblies. Advantages of the ZR1 hub include a sealed maintenance free larger than standard C5/C6 Corvette bearing pack which offers a stronger higher load capacity. The ATS spindle and ZR1hub combination do not alter track width or bolt pattern allowing standard wheel fitment. Brake packages are available for the ZR1 Corvette from multiple manufacturers, including Baer, Wilwood, and others, and bolt directly to the ATS spindle. Steering arm mounts are relocated to the optimum position to bring bump steer numbers down to nearly zero.
AFX Spindle Features include:
- Forged from ultra lightweight, exceptionally strong 7075 T73 aluminum
- Revised bolt-on steering arm location improves bump steer
- Tall spindle improves negative camber gain under suspension load
- One inch ride height drop for lowered look
- Uses sealed ZR1 Corvette hub assembly
- Does not push track width outward allowing standard wheel usage.
- Utilizes the steering arms that come with the rack and pinion in the subframe kit.
The ATS spindles are designed specifically to be used with our Hot Rod Subframe. If using suspension from another mid 60's to 70's GM muscle car, please order spindles on the page for that particular application.
Speedtech also offers factory replacement GM spindles for use with our Hot Rod Subframe. These are a direct bolt-in and are designed to work with the steering arms on our rack and pinion unit. Please call 435-628-4300 to discuss your specific application when ordering factory spindles.
