2018 Optima Challenge at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
We had 4 of our good friends and customers attend the March 2018 Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car challenge at Las Vegas Motor speedway, and they all had a blast pushing their cars hard around the open high speed autocross, the road course, and through the speed stop challenge.
Nick had a great weekend with his '70 Z28, missing the top 3 spots by only 0.55 seconds! That's a great time considering some of the best drivers on the west coast were barely ahead of him, and Nick's only been at this for a relatively short time. Back at his home garage he's building his wife a '69 Camaro that will get the '70's current powerplant and the Z28 will soon be sporting an even better mill for racing. We can't wait to see the results!
Back from showing us all the true meaning of the name "Fire-bird" Tony rebuilt his amazing show quality Trans Am from a track session fire last year to start making some waves again this year. He was still ironing out the tuning but managed a 6th place and had a blast thrashing the bad 'Bird on on the track. In many ways Tony is a great example of perseverance and pushing through the hard times to get back at it. More great performances from this awesome driver and car coming in the near future!
Michael drove his phat and fat '68 wide body Camaro to and from California for this event, one of the few Pro Touring cars out there sporting 335mm tires on all corners! Michael usually runs the car at local SCCA and smaller Pro Touring events and commented that the Optima competition was fierce with a lot of really great drivers and cars. He ended up taking 8th place and said looking forward he plans to up his driving game to shed more seconds from his lap times. Congrats Michael, we look forward to seeing the blue bandit on Nicks heels at LS fest West!
Alan brought out his 70 Chevelle, 3rd year in a row. After a bazillion road trip miles all over the U.S. and beating on the car regularly at several events a year, in it's last season of racing before retirement unfortunately his transmission started showing it's age and wasn't cooperating. Even though he wasn't able to complete all events he still had a great time among friends and fellow racers. This beautiful car is always a hit, but in the name of being even more competitive at home in Alan's garage is a near completed visual clone of this car, Alan's new '70 Chevelle that will be sporting a Speedtech ExtReme chassis and a much nastier and higher hp engine. Keep an eye out for it in the future!
