RedZed, Speedtech's '69 Camaro
Having worn many different coats before arriving at the Speedtech shop, this 1969 Camaro has now undergone it's greatest and final major transformation. The Camaro came in with a mild pro-touring makeover but that was all tossed in favor of bigger is better. A game plan was decided and tear down began, stripping the car of it's engine and auto transmission, mostly stock suspension, interior, exterior trim, and standard Camaro front clip. Speedtech wanted to make this one a show quality cruiser that could lay down the money when needed to, so a complete Speedtech Track Time front sub frame and famous Torque Arm rear suspension with a minitub conversion was put on the shopping list. The Speedtech sub frame features high clearance tubular control arms, AFX tall spindles and C5 hubs, coilover shocks, power rack and pinion steering and lightweight tubular sway bar. Controlling braking bite are Baer 14" Pro Plus 6 piston calipers wrapped around 14" rotors. Out back the coilover sprung Torque Arm rear suspension holds in place the narrowed 12 bolt rear axle which encases Strange innards turning 31 spline axles finished off with Baer Pro Plus 6 piston calipers on 14" discs.
For the 69's power plant, the existing stump pulling 600+ horsepower supercharged 427 big block backed by a max built 700R4 remained in the engine bay. Fabricated valve covers were painted to match the Speedtech sub frame and then topped with custom Speedtech signature laser cut billet aluminum inserts. Brushed finish supercharger case, billet pullies, master cylinder, and aluminum radiator tie the smooth and svelt look into the classy red engine bay. Exhaust is handled by Speedtech exclusive Stainless headers through a 3" polished Stainless dual system. Magna Flow polished stainless mufflers quiet things down just a bit while they exit out the rear.
A great deal of attention went into the body work of this car to make sure the soon coming ultra vibrant red paint laid down super smooth. To make the body more personalized through subtle changes, the louvers on the rear quarters were deleted and smoothed, the drip rails were shaved, flush mount front and rear glass and custom rear view mirrors installed, all body lines were filled and smoothed, all emblems were shaved and a complete RS front clip was put into place. Living up to the Camaro's appropriate RedZed branding and adding to the visual impact of the car is an uber bright shade of Mercedes Red topped with a single black hood and deck lid stripe. Billet hood and trunk hinges, door handles, taillight and side marker lights and door vents add that extra touch.
RedZed's renewed interior got a facelift through leather and suede custom door panels, a custom fiberglass suede covered headliner, and custom wrapped leather and suede seats. Billet handles, billet steering wheel and Autometer gauges add fashion and functionality. Pioneer and Alpine handle the high powered tune selections.
As impressive as this entire car is, the most eye catching feature is it's stance and super mean rolling stock. Custom Speedtech designed 3 piece wheels feature a polished outer rim, black powder coated inner rims and brushed centers with custom Speedtech branded billet center caps. The wheels measure 19x9" front and 20x12" rear and are wrapped in 275-30-19 and 345-25-20 Nitto tires. With all this attention to detail and incredible execution, there's no wonder it is always a big hit at car shows and while cruising around town.
